what we do

Samurai is an independently owned business founded in 2005.

Since then many changes have taken place, both in front & behind the scenes. Investment has been made in all areas of the business to ensure that we are able to offer the highest standards to our customers.

We are all passionate about sushi and everything Japanese.

We not only have an excellent range of sushi & bento, we offer delicious hot food such as chicken teriyaki to Dan Dan meatballs, a small but extremely healthy choice of salads and for those with a sweet tooth a selection of authentic japans treats and drinks.

Miso & udon noodle soups and gyoza (Japanese dumplings) are also only the menu along with a selection of side dishes like tofu and seaweed.

tuna and...

Our policy on tuna

We have said before and are true to our word, we have never used bluefin tuna in any of our sushi products and never will.

Now we have taken the same line on yellowfin tuna as we feel it is only a matter of time (probably short) before this too is on the critical list.

So what are we doing?

We have stopped selling yellowfin tuna and in it's place we are offering yellowtail, known also as Japanese Amberjack (seriola quinqueradiat), a fish of the Carangidae family which is farmed in Australia an the use of which has little impact on the environment.

The Japanese call it 'hamachi' or 'buri' and consider it as a 'king among sushi'.

Many people choose to eat it without the addition of soy sauce in order to enjoy it sweet flavour.

It can be as rich as tuna, smooth and buttery but not as overpoweringly fatty.

Yellow tail has light golden flesh which from time to time will display a streak along the fillet edge, a characteristic of the two-toned musculature of fish that cruise the open seas.

It tastes fantastic! Give it a try!

healthy

Yes, healthy for sure but also convenient, indulgent and value for money. We stopped using msg’s over a year ago, don’t use much that’s not fresh, colourings aren’t in our palette. We are continually looking for ways to improve. We are looking at what we do to the environment and are trying to help. We have stopped using as much plastic and much of our packaging is now degradable.
